Well that was a bad AC/DC reference ;)
Anyway, I’m going to put down my iPhone 4 for the next few days and try using my Nexus S as my primary device. I carry around both phones all the time, but my iPhone has my main phone number on it, making it my main device. But we’re testing some awesome FlyScreen 3.0 for Android, and it requires 24/7 attention. So here are a few area I’m worried about, but hope I’ll be able to resolve while going 100% Android:
- No good podcasting apps on Android!
I have already downloaded DoggCatcher and BeyondPod and they both kind of suck, with BeyondPod being a tad less sucky. Podcasts play a huge role in my daily routine; I listen all the time while in my car, at the gym (except when I run I switch to music), and chilling during work. (On a side note, my top podcasts include- The Nerdist, Buzz Out Loud, The Bugle, Founder Stories, This is my next podcast, This Week in Startups, AC360, and Kevin Pollack’s Chat Show).
After reading tons of forums talking about these two apps as the best on Android, I couldn’t believe how utterly confusing they are. The UI’s are a mess, and they were mad buggy. So please Android devs, before I get our team on it, can someone make a dead simple and awesome podcast app for Android??
- Camera
I do really like the Nexus S a lot, but the iPhone 4 takes *amazing* pictures. I just haven’t seen great pictures on my Nexus S- any apps that could take care of this? - Headphone jack is on the bottom of the phone
Not sure why this gets to me, but it feels so weird when holding the Nexus that the headphone jack is on the bottom. I think I’m one of those rare folks who actually like the iPhone earbuds, so I’m going to use those on the Nexus too. It’s just too bad the microphone controls won’t work.. - Wifi issues on the Nexus S
I do love not using Cellcom whenever possible. But there’s a weird problem with the WiFi connection on the NExus S, and I’ve heard *tons* of people with the same issue. It just seems to have a weak connection, and doesn’t work reliably unless you’re within like 2 meter of the router. At times I just shut off the Wifi and use 3G. But that could pose a problem if it becomes my main podcasting device, with no iTunes to do the downloading for me. Boo.
But don’t get me wrong, I still think the Nexus S is the best Android phone available. I get a lot of “what phone should I buy” queries, and my answer is always either Nexus S or iPhone 4. Nexus S because pure Android is the only way to go- spending money on MotoBlur, SenseUI, or whatever the heck Samsung does on theirs is SUCH A WASTE! They are fragmented skins, cause battery and performance issues, and are just really really ugly (except the SE one, but that one is mad laggy too). Nexus S and One are the only ones worth getting. And I suggest iPhone 4 because of the incredible screen, camera, apps, ecosystem and reliability. So don’t think I’m hating on my Nexus at all- Android is fantastic! But we’ll see how these next few days go sans iPhone 4…
Wish me luck.
